Richard Luker

Richard is an experienced Geotechnical Engineer and holds a BSc in Geology and an MSc in Mining Geology. After working within the mining industry both overseas and in the UK, he spent time working for a geotechnical consultancy followed by 6 years at Fugro working on a variety of UK wide onshore, nearshore and offshore ground investigation projects. Richard has worked in every role as an onsite geotechnical engineer from site agent/site manager to technical lead and worked on a variety of projects from small housing development contracts, port development to large windfarm and tunnelling projects.

During his time working for Fugro he has become a specialist within chalk stratigraphy around the UK and previously was part of the team that supervised and geotechnically logged the deepest cored borehole in the UK. 

Richard is a fellow of the Geological Society of London and is currently working towards his chartership.

In his spare time and when the conditions right, Richard enjoys surfing and snowboarding and has been doing so since he was young. His hobbies enable him to travel, and he is passionate about visiting new places, cultures and supporting good causes such as SAS (Surfers Against Sewage).

Experience Summary

  • Extensive geotechnical site investigation experience covering the complete life cycle from premobilisation planning, to acquisition, logging and undertaking offshore laboratory testing and overseeing the site works.
  • Experience in a wide range of site investigation sampling and drilling techniques used nearshore and onshore.
  • Experience and management of in-situ hydraulic packer/lugeon testing and interpretation.
  • Experienced in processing and interpreting CPTs.
  • Authoring technical notes and engineering reports.
  • Overseeing and managing geotechnical soil and rock laboratory testing, including laboratory scheduling.
