Ross Nichols

Ross has been with Ternan since September 2023 when he joined straight after completing his MSc in Geotechnical Engineering from Newcastle University. Prior to this, Ross completed his  BSc in Geology and Petroleum Geology at the University of Aberdeen.

During his time studying, Ross gained valuable knowledge within areas of foundation design, constitutive modelling (PLAXIS 2D and Rocscience) as well as ground investigation techniques.

With a passion for the outdoors, Ross enjoys road cycling and mountain biking in his spare time allowing him to travel and explore new locations. During the winter months, he enjoys ski touring in the local hills around Aberdeenshire and the Cairngorms. You will also regularly find him taking part in the local Parkrun where he is constantly pushing for a new 5K PB.

Experience Summary

  • Experience in soil modelling, underlying concepts, and numerical methods.
  • Desk top studies and report writing.
  • Software experience using OPile and PLAXIS 2D.
  • Experience in LPAs along with principal theories of shallow and deep foundation design.
