What began as an unconventional idea over a year ago transformed into an electrifying evening of dialogue, insight, and possibility. Our recent event, "The Great Debate," brought together industry experts to tackle one of the most pressing questions in renewable energy: What does the future hold for commercial-scale floating offshore wind?

An Evening of Bold Conversations

The venue was packed and buzzing with anticipation and energy. Our specially selected panel - featuring Adam Ezzamel from RWE, David McMillan from Trios Renewables, Carolyn Heeps from Fred. Olsen Seawind, Mark Finch from Ternan Energy, Laura Finlay from Scottish Enterprise and Richard Copeland from Copenhagen Offshore Partners - represented a diverse range of perspectives and expertise in the offshore wind sector.

The central question was audacious: Can we overcome the significant challenges, leverage emerging technologies, and accelerate the development of floating offshore wind within an incredibly compressed timescale?

A Spectrum of Perspectives

The panel's views painted a fascinating landscape of potential futures. Perspectives ranged from the sceptic to the optimist. Some panelists were resolute in their doubts, while others saw a clear path forward.

Mark Finch, Managing Director at Ternan Energy, took centre stage with a compelling call to action: "The current orthodoxy won't cut it for floating offshore wind - bold thinking is needed." 

Unfiltered Dialogue

What made the event truly special was the audience engagement. Participants weren't passive listeners but active contributors. The Q&A session was marked by respect, intellectual rigor and a genuine desire to explore the potential of floating offshore wind.

While no definitive consensus emerged on whether there's a commercial future for this technology, one thing became crystal clear: the people who will make this future a reality were in that room on the night.

More Than Just a Discussion

Beyond discourse, we created an experience. The venue was terrific, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was charged with possibility and a bit of controversy. We took a chance on a new format, and it paid off spectacularly.
