Formed in 2016, we are an innovative, highly experienced and uniquely connected consultancy.
We are totally independent and passionate about what we do. We work across the globe to support Clients for their offshore projects.
Mark Finch (Director and Principal Geotechnical Engineer)
is a Chartered Engineer with 27 years’ experience of offshore geotechnical engineering and foundation design for the offshore oil and gas, renewable energy and subsea power cables sectors.
Mark has worked across a wide range of offshore companies, from site investigation and EPCI contractors to operators and developers.
Mark regularly acts as Expert Witness in high-value disputes and advises Clients on issues relating to the soils, foundation design and installation issues for their projects.
Mark is a recognised industry expert and has published numerous technical papers on a wide range of offshore geotechnical topics. He serves on a number of industry panels and bodies.
Rhys Medler (Operations Director)
A hydrographic surveyor by training, Rhys has spent over 25 years undertaking and managing offshore surveys, site investigations and positioning operations. Following 11 years working offshore with Gardline Surveys, he joined Floyd & Associates in a project management role. As Operations Director at Floyd & Associates and then Senergy Survey & GeoEngineering, Rhys has managed a wide range of projects (involving thousands of vessel days) on behalf of clients in the oil, gas and renewable energy sectors.
Alongside project management, Rhys has a strong background in QHSE and management systems, ensuring Ternan projects meet legal, industry and client expectations.
Dr. Keith Lauder (Senior Geotechnical Engineer)
Dr. Keith Lauder gained a PhD from Dundee University in 2011. His state-of-the-art research focussed on the influence of soil parameters on subsea pipeline ploughing and redefined the understanding of this challenging operation.
Keith joined Ternan Energy after 5 years at Lloyds Register in Aberdeen where he worked on various offshore foundation projects principally involving the assessment of foundation design, anchor design and geotechnical parameters applied to pipeline stability analyses, ensuring compliance with the appropriate industry codes, standards and regulations for verification and certification purposes.
Keith has spent time offshore witnessing piling and drag anchor installation operations. He also has experience of geotechnical site investigations and vessel based laboratory classification and testing techniques.
Ricardo Argiolas (Principal Associate)
is a Chartered Engineer with 29 years’ experience of offshore geotechnical engineering and foundation design for the oil and gas, renewable energy and subsea power cables sectors. His experience encompasses a range of different soil types from overconsolidated soils, to carbonate rocks and deep water soft clays sites using ISO, API and Norsok codes of practice. Ricardo’s experience includes detailed installation and in-place design work for small and large offshore Jackets and SURF projects.
For pipe-soil-interaction in soft clays, he works alongside pipeline engineers to determine embedded, axial and lateral friction factors for hot-pipes and ensures that site investigations focus on the upper 500mm of sediment, which is at the limits of accurate measurements of most site characterisation tools.
Peter Larkin (Principal Associate)
is a Chartered Engineering Geologist with over 35 years worldwide experience in the offshore (coastal, maritime and offshore) Geotechnical / Civil Engineering Industry, Oil & Gas and Renewables Energy sectors. Peter has previously worked for a variety of civil engineering, geotechnical and subsea installation contractors and consultancies and has considerable international experience.
Marcus Brown (Associate)
is an offshore geotechnical engineer with five years’ experience, gained working in both an offshore operational and consulting capacity. Marcus has a wide range of consulting experience including design and management of offshore geotechnical site investigations in addition to interpretation and analysis of site investigation data, leading to delivery of engineering guidance and recommendations, with a particular focus on cable route planning, burial protection and trenching risk assessments for offshore renewables.
Marcus is fully certified to work offshore First-hand experience of offshore data acquisition and construction activities, coupled with his consulting experience gives Marcus a comprehensive understanding of geotechnical projects, from initiation to execution.
